Farewell to the Year of the Sheep

IMG_4750

The eleventh  in our set of twelve mosaics depicting the animal signs of the Chinese zodiac was presented to our Principal, Mr Chris Sevior, at our Grade 6 Graduation on December 17th, 2015. Mrs Glenys Vella (left), taught the Grade 6 classes during 2015. She expertly organized the students in the designing, creating and completion of “The Year of the Sheep”, a wonderful addition to our collection.  Each year the new mosaic is mounted on the brick wall in our school courtyard. Our two winning designers are also pictured. We congratulate Seth and Gurpreet. We look forward to seeing the design the new Grade 6 students decide upon this year for the “Year of the Monkey”. Which is your animal sign? You could find it here.

  1. This is such a positive example of encouraging a child’s creativity. What a great teacher to teach and encourage these kids. Congrats to the winners. I am year of the horse and I am sure that mosaic is just as beautiful as the sheep. Great job from a teacher in Las Vegas!

  2. Thank you for your comment on our Year of the Sheep mosaic Emily. It’s great to think that someone as far away as beautiful Las Vegas has seen it and taken the trouble to write to us. I have visited LV seven times and have thoroughly enjoyed each stay. Our Grade 6 students do all the work on the mosaic except the grouting. We teach them how to cut tiles with a tile cutter and with side nippers, how to mix tile cement and apply the tiles in an orderly manner. They enjoy seeing the picture emerge and there are lots of oohs and aahs as the completed work is unveiled under the down lights on Grade 6 Graduation night in December. This year’s mosaic will be a monkey and it will complete our set of 12.
    Many Thanks once again,
