We Will Remember Them

Today, April 25th, is ANZAC day in Australia. ANZAC stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. I am posting some photographs from my recent trip to the battlefields of Belgium and France. They were taken at the Villers-Brettoneux Military Cemetery, France and at Bedford House Cemetery outside Yypres or Ieper, Belgium.  On ANZAC day we commemorate  the sacrifices made by Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians and British soldiers during WW 1, WW 2 and conflicts since then.
The Ode
“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

The Art of Travel

Over the past week while we are having School Holidays in Australia I have been travelling in Europe. My husband and I arrived in Amsterdam where we stayed for three days before driving south to Ypres in Belgium. In Amsterdam we took a canal boat ride and a bus tour of the city before visiting the Rijksmuseum. There we saw wonderful artworks by such artists as Rembrandt and Vermeer. As a Primary school student in the 1950s and 1960s I was fascinated by “Holland”. Visiting the Netherlands, as it is now called, and enjoying its scenery, culture and artworks has been a dream come true for me.Which country do you dream of visiting?
