Happy New Year – and may it be an Art filled one.

Eight years ago I had the pleasure of visiting the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York. We were very impressed with the Museum’s  extensive collections. This  marble sculpture “Latona with her children Apollo and Diana”  is from the American Collection and is by William Henry Rinehart (1825–1874). He made it in Rome in 1874.  Seeing the sculpture again made me wonder how marble carving looks.

Below the photo I have embedded a YouTube video showing the painstaking work involved in carving a face into  a piece of marble.
